What programs ask before they start free or move to Platform.
Yes. Cohort is a flat monthly rate for your whole program, billed monthly by default (annual is available if you prefer to pay once). At a few hundred dollars a month it sits under most university P-Card single-transaction limits, so a coordinator with budget authority can usually approve it without a purchase order, an RFP, or a competitive bid.
Bands count active students, not everyone you've ever enrolled. When a student finishes their program you archive them — their records stay intact and exportable — and that slot opens back up for your next intake. So a band comfortably covers a program that brings in a new cohort each year: you size to who's currently in placement, not your all-time total.
No. The program pays one flat rate and students pay $0. That's a deliberate contrast with per-student tools that charge each student $200 or more for access — with Cohort it's a single, predictable line item and nothing lands on the student.
Because Cohort holds student education records, some institutions route it through an IT/security review or ask for a Data Processing Agreement under FERPA regardless of price. We keep a pre-signed DPA and a one-page security overview ready, so that review is usually a quick sign-off rather than a months-long stall.
